Work Images

I have been busy busy lately with photographing work events. Although I won't post the photographs on this blog, I will certainly share the link!

Visit the Pequot Museum's Flickr page to check out some of my latest work.

Cruising Yorkshire Dales

This bull was the larger than the car.
We stopped long enough for a photo, and that was good enough...
considering with one look at us, he tried to hook and remove the fence with his horn.

quilts

(they're an art form.)

I can't sew to save me life, seriously. I was never really into learning how, either.

Back in the day, I was working - teaching - at the National Heritage Museum (worth a visit if you've never been - they pick up some really funky traveling exhibits), and they hosted Art of the Needle. A collection of quilts from the Shelbourne Museum.

Unbelievable.

museums
(i love my jobs.)

I am one of those (probably few and far between) people who absolutely loves their job(s). Museums speak to me on a visitors level, but more from the interior. I have the opportunity to be the voice for a museum, through education, exhibit design, social media, networking, research, etc., etc. etc.

Books
(Like, the real kind. With pages that you turn)

I love books.

Now, don't get me wrong. I am ALL for upgrading books with technology, such as the Kindle or the Nook. Especially if that's what it takes to get people, or kids, reading, and our literacy rate to grow. I even have the Kindle app on my phone (however, which I have yet to use).

But there is something about sitting in a library, a Barnes and Noble, a university, or an archive which will never, ever compare to any kind of technology. I like the smell of books. The design of bindings. Hardcovers, especially. I love rearranging my books so they are in a certain order, or a certain color. I love haphazard stacks of books next to my desk (when I once had enough room for a desk!).

Generally, I love to read a book. I can remember when I was little rarely ever begging to stay up late to watch television, but to stay awake to finish my book. Laying in bed and sneaking a flashlight under the covers to finish - yet again - whatever Babysitter's Club book that I had read for the thousandth time.
One of my favorite places to be surrounded by books, an incredible library: Yale University Library: Manuscripts and Archives. You wouldn't believe what's there.I thank my lucky stars everyday that the majority of my work is in the books.

Archaeology
(Or the National Park Service's version: archeology. Missing the A.)

I consider myself one of the luckier people on the planet to be employed doing something I love. During college, I became hooked on historical research and archaeology. It may be hard labor, and it may not be the most ladylike profession, but there's something. There's something about the perfect grid, the OCD-ness of paperwork, and the discovery of history that I will always have respect for.
