a-z love: S

In response to a favorite blogger of mine, I've also decided to hop on the "a-z love" train. 26 posts of straight love - beginning with each letter of the alphabet!

snowboarding.
(I'm getting too old for this.)

My mother once said to me (as my memory recalls), "I can't imagine why you would strap yourself to a board and go whizzing down a hill." Well, Mom, neither do I. It really doesn't seem that intelligent

But, I picked snowboarding up in college at the suggestion of a friend, and happened to have acquaintances who were patient enough to take me along and teach* meNow, 10 years later, I've somewhat lost that excitement, urge, and drive to travel to a mountain to shred every weekend. Knowing I need to be at work at Monday (without injury) has calmed me enough to simply enjoy the cruise control (rather then throw myself of jumps and stare down a rail or a pipe).

Regardless, I still love it. I get pumped up with a fluttery stomach when I strap in to my bindings and slide off the lift. The beauty and the call of the mountains will never cease.

*As in, wished me good luck and said "See you at the bottom!" It really is the only way to learn, ha!

icicles
(winter.)

I love winter, the cold and the snow. Last  year there were mounds of snow and gigantic icicles that dropped from the edge of the cottage and into the snow. I considered them nature's work of art. They were beautiful, three-dimensional sculptures of winter's paces, encasing the cottage in such a natural way that it reminded me of a ice palace. Well, a mini-ice palace, anyways. I miss a real winter.

Chase and Cinnamon, a Cairn Terrier and Australian Shepherd mix, have fun in the snow. Best friends and family. What a cool afternoon.
